Limited Service Volunteers (LSV)

Inwork Waikato is proud to have been given the opportunity to work with graduates of the LSV programme.

The Limited Service Volunteer (LSV) course is an intensive 6 week residential course providing life skills to unemployed young people aged between 18-25. Trainees are volunteers who apply through Work and Income and are subject to medical and police checks.

Inwork has interaction with these Trainees at different stages of the 6 weeks. The transformation of the Trainees is amazaing in many cases. They develop a new found sense of direction and realise their true potential.

Following completion of the programme, all Waikato based Trainees who haven't entered employment or training, will work with Inwork to find either employment or training opportunities that will lead to employment.

Employers who have taken on previous LSV Trainees, are positive about the quality candidates the programme produces. If you are interested in exploring the option of taking on an LSV Trainee in the Waikato region, then please feel free to contact us.

Inwork Clients Realising Their Potential

Graduates of the Governments boot-camps and of Te Puni Kôkiri's cadetship programmes are gaining work in Christchurch with the help of Fletcher Building. Fletcher Building and Te Puni Kôkiri have been working together to help get more young Mâori men into jobs.

Two of the clients featured in this video have received support from Christchurch Inwork staff member Sarah Tabak, to help support them into their transition into employment. Ex-client Harley Roberts worked with Sarah prior to gaining employment and client Michael O’Connor is a current client.

Harley has secured a further 6 month contract with Dimond Fletcher, and Michael, who came through LSV and is described as an exceptional worker, also securing employemnt with Dimond Fletcher.

They both gained employment in Christchurch as part of the Te Puni Kokiri Programme (Realising Maori Potential).

In-Work Encouraging Sporting Youth

Three ex LSV trainees and In-Work NZ  (Inwork) Canterbury Clients; Keith Kennedy, Rhys Delamere and Shian King-Tikitiki participated at a basketball tournament on the weekend of 20 September at Bromley Park in Christchurch. Inwork Canterbury Team Leader, Zoltan Boros was the ‘super sub’ but he ended up managing the team as the lads enjoyed playing big minutes.

Team Inwork finished second in the competition, narrowly losing the final battle. They donated their silver medals to the fourth placed team, who were a considerably younger crew, which was a generous thing to do.

They enjoyed it thoroughly and want to be more involved in community sport. The tournament is called ‘There is a Better Way’ and targets youth at risk and will take place every two weeks for another three months.

Ministerial Visit to Inwork...

Hon Georgina te Heuheu QSO

On the 20th September 2011, Inwork was honoured by a Ministerial visit.  Our Minister of Pacific Island Affairs Hon Georgina te Heuheu QSO spent 2 hours of her valuable time visiting our Mangere site.  The Minister took a particular interest in our young Clients, benefiting all those attending with her knowledge and wisdom.  The Minister was interested to learn what the participants had been doing, what sort of work they were looking for, as well as examples of their job search efforts.  The minister spoke to family members of clients, congratulating them on their support of their young people and this service.  The Minister was interested to meet the various community organisations in attendance, demonstrating their support of both the Pacific Employment Support Service and Inwork.

The Minister inspired many of our young participants by sharing her personal story of success from humble beginnings as emphasising that they as our our young people are the future of our country.  The Minister was accompanied by Mr. Colin Tukuitonga, Chief Executive Office - Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs.
